JVC has brought a new way of docking to iPod owners; with their JVC NX-PN7 this is not just a docking station. JVC has placed them selves in a different arena when it comes to this product, which has not one but two docking stations. The JVC NX-PN7 is a tabletop appliance that is capable of docking two iPods side-by-side and equipped with speakers. A research study conducted by the Nielsen ratings service appears to suggest that individuals are ever more likely to use technology,
particularly the world wide web, to catch up or stay up to speed with their TV habits. All in all, the evidence shows
that some fifty-six percent of adults aged 18 - 34 years old were likely to use the web, a DVR or VOD service to catch up on their favorite tv programs such as ‘Lost’,
‘Dancing with the Stars’ or whatever.
By contrast, twenty-one percent of older adults (those aged over fifty-five) are likely to as well. The big
Networks persist in drawing in the most users. For example, fully half of those wanting to catch up logged on to ABC.com while another forty-one percent or so
logged on to NBC.com. In the meantime, CBS.com drew some thirty-seven percent of users who use the web to get up to speed. For the time being this data appears to be an indicator
that network TV should start modifications concerning changes just how they distribute their TV programs. In addition, it appears to indicate that advertisers might soon have another venue with which to advertise on.
Sponsoring a full-length episode of
a tv program show online or buying a package which permits a commercial to be run both on the live broadcast plus the web version could help to increase the ROI of a campaign or the recognition of a brand.
I have also noticed a tendency of cable to do the same thing. VH1 may be the leader in this regard and i am sure that their web site recieves a lot of traffic. For example, Vh1 shows
such as ‘Hogan Knows Best’, ‘Rock of Love’ with Brett Michaels and the ‘Pick Up Artist’ starring Mystery all persistently promote their web presence. The Discovery Channel, the Military Channel and A & E are aggressive in this regard as well. Will TV ever go the downward route of paper newspapers? Time will only tell.
